What To Expect on Your First Chiropractic Visit

When you arrive for your initial appointment you will be asked to provide us with some information about your health history, and the nature of your current complaint or reason for your visit. After you complete this short process, your chiropractor will spend some time talking with you so that she will better understand your condition and be aware of any other health concerns you may have.

Once the doctor feels that she has a complete understanding of the history and nature of your complaint, she will perform an examination to help her evaluate your condition and develop a working diagnosis. If it is necessary, women may be asked to put on a gown and men may be asked to put on a pair of shorts so that your doctor can better assess your condition. After the examination, your chiropractor will explain her diagnosis and will address whether she feels chiropractic treatment is appropriate.

If chiropractic care is deemed appropriate, she will discuss the specific types of treatment that will be helpful and a schedule for treatment. If sufficient time is available on the first visit, your doctor will provide treatment. The types of therapy that we provide include physiotherapy modalities such as therapeutic ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, ice and heat, soft tissue massage such as myofascial release and trigger point therapy, chiropractic manipulation, exercise therapy, and rehabiliation. If you would like to know more about chiropractic manipulation, please refer to the FAQ section.

In contrast with some chiropractors, our doctors believe that a patient should notice a significant improvement after eight to twelve visits. If little or no improvement is seen within that time frame, we will reassess your complaint and most likely provide a recommendation or referral for other treatment. In most cases, it is most effective for a patient to receive treatment more frequently in the early stages of care. We may recommend that you be seen two or three times per week for the first two to four weeks depending on your individual case.
